Medicare Supplement - Medicare Advantage
Medigap insurance, also known as Medicare supplements, pay most or all of the costs not covered by Parts A and B of Medicare. These plans have no networks; a policyholder can use any doctor or hospital that takes original Medicare.
Medicare advantage plans, also known as Part C of Medicare, are plans issued by private insurance companies which take the place of original Medicare. Enrollees are placed in either an HMO or PPO with a network of doctors and hospitals. These plans often have no additional monthly premium, and include prescription drug coverage.
Individuals enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid, also known as KanCare in Kansas, qualify for Part C plans with an exhaustive list of comprehensive benefits known as Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs). These plans are issued by some of the same companies as standard part-C plans. They include Medicaid providers, in addition to private doctors and health care facilities that might not normally accept Medicaid.
